Wet Felting with Sally Sparrow (Fornham Hall) - Friday 21st Feb 2020
Regular craft demonstrator Sally Sparrow made a welcome guest at our Friday Fornham Hall meeting, giving a keen group of attendees her hints and tips on Wet Felting. As you can see from the photos, there was a lot of activity and plenty of end results.
Braiding with Sarah Gull (Fornham Hall) - Friday 3rd Jan 2020
The New Year kicked off with a workshop on tablet weaving, led by Sarah Gull. Sarah went through the process of recreating the Oseberg band, found
in a Norwegian ship burial, and dating from 834 AD. The band was produced using 10 tablets made of cardboard and a backstrap method- low technology and a lot of fun.
The notation for the band is available here.
We are blessed locally with displays of Anglo-Saxon and Viking braids at both West Stow and Sutton Hoo. As Bury St Edmunds is celebrating 1000 years from the Foundation of the Abbey by King Cnut this seems a fitting start to the year.
